The Stastny brothers became one of the most successful brother trios in the NHL. Anton was the youngest of the three and played with his family in Czechoslovakia while also representing his country at the World Junior Championships in 1978 and winning a silver medal in 1979. After being selected by the Flyers in the 1978 Amateur Draft, he re-entered the draft the next year and was taken by the Nordiques, where he spent his entire career.
After the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, both Anton and Peter defected to Canada and applied for citizenship. Both joined the Nordiques for the 1980-81 season and made an impact in the NHL right away. The third Stastny, Marian, joined them the next season and their forward line was complete.
Anton enjoyed numerous productive seasons in the NHL and helped guide the Nordiques in the Stanley Cup playoffs, though he never made it to the Cup finals. He finished his NHL career during the 1988-89 season and played in Switzerland for three seasons before returning to Czechoslovakia for one last season of hockey in 1993-94.
