Q: Gilbert, you are so fun loving and seem to enjoy these Legends tours so much. Did you have as much fun when you played with the Sabres?
Perreault: Yes, I had a lot of fun. Hockey has to be fun to be good. If the sport isn't enjoyable then you can't be successful.
Q: In Buffalo, the fans grew to expect a lot from you, and the "French Connection" (Rene Robert and Richard Martin). Did you feel that pressure?
Well, you have to feel the pressure to play good. If you don't have the pressure, you can't be at the top of your game. It's part of the game. Today, I feel a lot of pressure because I have two kids...that's pressure! Life is pressure...you need that to perform. Without pressure, you cannot perform.
Q: Gilbert, you have had many successes in Buffalo. The Calder Trophy, 500 goals scored and the Hall of Fame, just to mention a few. What would be your highlights?
Well, having a chance to play for the same team for 17 years was a highlight. In my first year, I set a record in the NHL for scoring 38 goals...that was a highlight. We went to the finals the first five years I played with the Sabres...that was a highlight, and scoring 500 goals was a highlight.
Q: You are asked this often...however, in all your successful years with Buffalo, you never saw the Stanley Cup. Has that ever been a disappointment?
Yes, I have a lot of regrets about that. We only went to the finals once in 1975 and didn't win. So if you don't get to the final playoff games, then you don't have a chance.
Q: Gilbert, you're back doing some promotional work with the Buffalo Sabres. Is it good to be back doing a few things with the team you played with for so many years?
You know, I really enjoy it. I'm very glad to be back with the organization in a promotional way. I am not part of the day to day business.
Q: When the fans see you skate today, they still comment on how you flow on the ice...your power and your grace. How does it feel to be back on the ice?
I feel great...a little heavy, but I'm always going to love hockey. I'm having a lot of fun without pressure. And as long as we can give a good show and the fans love it, that's what's important.
