Legends Live Up To Billing

BY TIM FITZGERALD
Morning Star: Vernon - Wednesday, November 24,1999

Ben Featherstone has donned his hockey equipment more times than he can remember, but as he bent over to tighten his skates Sunday afternoon it was all he could do to keep his hands from shaking uncontrollably.

"I was so nervous sitting there in the dressing room across from Guy Lafleur," said Featherstone, who was walking on cloud ninety-nine after he won a contest courtesy of The Morning Star to play with his childhood hockey hero in the 11th annual Oldtimers' Hockey Challenge. "It was unbelievable, the chance of a lifetime. Both my cousin and my uncle asked if they could change places. They're huge Guy Lafleur fans."

Featherstone hit the ice with the Montreal Canadiens' Hall of Famer as well as scoring sensation Marcel Dionne, Dave (Tiger) Williams and other former NHLers as they pistol-whipped the Vernon RCMP 15-5 in front of 2,500-plus fans at the Civic Arena. The annual charity game raises money for CrimeStoppers and Citizens on Patrol.
